This time includes the time I spend preparing for your session and in the time spent afterward proofing your session. Each image in your proof gallery will be lightly retouched. All images you order will have basic retouching included with the print price (small spots on skin, clothing etc) There may be occasion for additional retouching being required and that can be done for an additional fee.

Just me: I’m sure this can go without saying, but just in case it should be said. Please do not bring your own camera to our session. I will be operating the only camera at the session, since it’s what you paid me for! Therefore, please make sure that no one else is taking any pictures during the session. If this should happen, the photographer reserves the right to end the session.

I want to see!: After your session, your photos will be reviewed and edited. Please note that any photos that are not up to par will be deleted right away and not displayed in your gallery. The photos that are chosen are the best of the best, and are edited at the photographer’s discretion. Photos will either be finished in either color or black and white, but you will be able to choose what finish you would like your print in. Editing time can take a few days for regular sessions. The reason it can take this long, is that once I have decided what images are worthy of you ordering, I go over each individually in my digital dark room and check for balanced color, retouch blemishes, and make sure you look the very best I know how! Your images will be posted online once they are edited, and will be online for you to make a decision on what to order. I do ask that you try to make your order within two weeks of the date the gallery is put online. Your gallery will be password protected (I will give you the password) and it will expire after two weeks. I will send you an expiration reminder; once the gallery password is expired you will need to contact me to reset the password. I find that this helps the procrastinators of the world just like me!!! Also to save you the stress of figuring out what to buy for whom, you will be able to pass on the ordering information for Grandma and Grandpa to place their own orders!

Reshoot: Should you not be satisfied with the final proofs, please call me to discuss your concerns. I strive to provide you with images you will adore for years and years to come, and your satisfaction matters. However, having a redo will be at the photographer’s discretion.

Time to order: After you take on the agonizing task of choosing which portraits to adorn your walls with, it will be time to place your order! Your order can be placed via email or phone, please be sure to include the proof number, size, quantity, and color finish. If you find the decisions too difficult to make on your own, you can opt to schedule an ordering session with me in my office. For prices, please visit the investment page of our website. Also, be sure to check out our specialty items, such as collages, storyboards, custom cards, photobooks, and dvd slideshows/videos. Once your order has been placed, I will email you a detailed invoice. You will have 2 days to make payment, if you are paying by check, it should be mailed in 2 days. If you would like to pay online with a credit card, please let me know and I will set up a payment link for quick and easy payment. Due to the custom nature of your order, all sales are final.

Designs & Collages: Collages and other custom designs are only made on a commissioned basis. Should you want a collage made, please let me know and I will give you an estimate and begin the designing process. I only make collages for those who commission them, once requested you are required to purchase a collage.

Order more: If you find you didn’t get everything you wanted, you can repost your session at a later date by contacting me. I will reset your password for a few days for you to choose the new images to order, and then the password will expire.

Prints, please: Once orders have been placed, please allow up to a week for your order to be ready for pick up. Once you place your order I go to the original file and do all my retouching which can take some time, and then it takes 3 business days for the prints to arrive to me from the lab. If you then wish to have your prints sent to you, please allow for shipping time. Specialty items, such as photo book, can take 6-8 weeks for arrival. You will receive an email or call when your order is ready, and we will arrange a time for you to get your order. It will be your responsibility to care for your images properly. If you are unable to pick up your order, I can happily ship you at current USPS shipping rates.

Copyright: All images, both in print and online, are the sole property Carrie Bassett Photography LLC. It is unlawful to reproduce images in any way, and violators will be prosecuted. Scanning, reprinting, reproducing of images, in any fashion is illegal, with penalties starting at $150,000. My art is how I contribute to my family, and violating these laws steals from my family. Copying images also compromises the integrity of the image quality, which can result in compromising the integrity of my business. I ask that you respect my art, and the laws set in place to protect it.
This is brought up mainly because today there is a lovely social site called Facebook. I LOVE Facebook and would love for you to display the images I make of you and or your family on your Facebook account. If there are any images from your session that you would like to use as a Facebook profile picture or in your photo gallery, please let me know and I will send you a low resolution file that is perfect for Facebook. I am not charging at this time for this awesome bonus BUT I do have a few rules. Any image I send you for this purpose will have my logo on the image as a watermark and you may not crop the images in a way that removes this from the image. The size image I send you is perfect for web viewing but in no way is of a quality to make prints from.

Look at you: Carrie Bassett shall remain the owner of all session images, and shall have full rights for usage. This will include usage for her business blog, website, display or any other advertising. Should you wish for your images to NOT be used for any of these purposes, please notify the photographer.

The purpose of the model release is to create a legal contract between the photographer and the model, giving the the photographer permission to market and publish the model’s image (likeness) for a wide variety of purposes, including advertising. This gives Carrie Bassett Photography LLC permission to use the images on their blog, their website, their portfolio and in advertising without further consent from you. Please know that if you request to NOT have your images used for these purposes I will make note of that and will not use them, as I do not wish to use images against a clients wishes. I understand some people have issues with having their images online for the world to access. A good thing to note that if anyone contacts me to use an image they have seen of mine that you are in you do not have to be notified unless that model is a minor, at that point THEY need to get additional permission from you in writing for the use of a minor’s image. Typically I post images from each session on my blog and if you do not wish to have them posted, I will honor that, please let me know in advance. Other typical uses of your likeness would be in my galleries and perhaps on a business card or marketing piece.

Session Tips:

I have four kids; I know what it is like trying to get everyone and everything perfect for a picture…not easy, very stressful. I stress over clothing, hair, accessories, everything. While I know that it can be stressful, I know even more it doesn’t have to be. I like to approach each session like this, you are coming to a friend’s house to hang out! The cool part, your friend has a knack for taking some good pictures!!! RELAX this can be fun! Here are a few things that will help you prepare for our session, and take a little more stress off your plate!
Arrive on time! As silly as it seems, this is so important. Give your children time to explore the new environment. They need a few minutes to figure it all out. Also, if you are late you will naturally be stressed. A big help is to do everything you can the night before to make your morning as easy as possible. Simply setting out the things you will need or wear to your session the night before, will save you that much time and effort in the morning. Sometimes children come to my studio and don’t want to do what we would consider “cooperating”. I expect this, it doesn’t bother me, PLEASE do not let it bother you. It is typical for a one year old, for instance, to sit for a quick shot and then be off to explore the other side of the studio. We just capture what they give us, no stress!

WHAT NOT TO WEAR

Timeless is the way to go, unless you are going for a certain look, or making a certain statement, the best clothing style for a portrait, especially a family portrait, is one that won’t be out-of-date in a few years. Simple classic styles that stand the test of time are best for your portrait. Remember that the emphasis of the Portrait is you, the subject.

The general photography clothing rule is KISS – Keep It Simple Silly! Less is more, keep this in mind when making your clothing selections. Some of the most classic looks, are jeans a solid colored nice top, and bare feet!

The first thing you see in a portrait should be the face of the subjects. Attention-getting clothing will distract from your face. And speaking of the face….bring wipes for those kiddos and give them a quick wipe down before the session. Don’t forget to moisturize…the whole family. Another tip is to bring some lip balm to help smooth out lips. Dry,chapped lips may not seem noticeable, but in a close up portrait, it will really stand out.

Here are the dos and don’ts in regards to clothing.

Don’ts:

-Don’t wear stripes, busy patterns, clothing items with logos.

-Shoes. I personally prefer bare feet, but wear what suits you! Do keep in mind that the first thing to “date” a photograph are the shoes, so you may not want to go too trendy. Many of the poses I use for families are seated on the white floor so your shoes will show, so shoes can be important.

- Don’t wear colors that clash.

-Don’t drown yourself in white. White is fine, but too much of it will wash you out. White tops really do look great in a high key style photograph like we will be making, but you may want your pants to be darker like a great pair of khaki’s or jeans.

-Don’t wear or put your children in really bulky items. Children should wear clothes that fit, too big makes them look sloppy.

-New vs older clothes. Don’t feel you have to go out shopping for a new wardrobe, but keep in mind on your older clothing’s condition. An older sweater for example might have “pills” that just stand out in close up photographs. A few can be cloned out quickly in the editing process with out charge, but if there are quite a bit, then you will be charge to have them retouched out of your final print.

Dos:

- Do wear colors that compliment your skin tones. Think about what colors look best on you or your children, and use those. Try not to wear colors that will wash you out, or be too dark in images.

-Do wear colors that compliment each other. This is key in family portraits, the colors do not have to perfectly match but being in the same tonal range is nice. You can even use different colors; choosing those that compliment each other.

-Do bring fun and funky accessories if you like them! Hats, boots, leggings for babies, big fun necklaces for girls, scarves, whatever screams you – bring it! Let’s get untraditional if you want!

- Do be true to your style! Regardless of whether you want trendy, hip, funky, western or traditional, stay true to what best represents who you are. We want to make memories of you, and wearing clothing that shows off who you are is important.

This is my home: My studio is located in the finished basement of my home. That being said, it is a pretty casual atmosphere. One thing I must mention is that I have three friendly cats whom I do my best to keep locked up during your session. Although they will be locked up, not every bit of their fur and dander will be gone from my home, so if there are any allergies….please medicate before you arrive. Other than that, my home is open to you..if you need to use the microwave, the kitchen sink etc please feel free!

Your session: Your session fee is for the time and talent of the photographer only (although there may be qualified for a promotion that includes an 11×14 print with your paid session fee).

Sick ones: I am a parent myself, and I know all too well that when you need them to be well, something comes up! Because I’m a mommy, I ask that your germs remain yours. If your child should fall ill before the session, please contact me right away to reschedule your session. If your child is ill, your retainer will transfer, if proper notice is given. Use your discretion when deciding whether or not your child is too ill for a session. Remember that a sick child, is not always a happy child. It may be in their best interest to recover rather than perform for the camera, and a camera will show those sick eyes. Also if you aren’t sure, give me a call and we can discuss what would be best for all.

Time to shine: Your session will last anywhere from 1 to 2 hours, depending on the type of session, and different shots desired. I ask that you are prompt in arrival to your session, as you may not be the only one on the books for the day. If for some reason you are running late, please call me as soon as possible to let me know when to expect you. If you are more than 15 minutes late to your session without proper notification, I will assume you are not coming and your retainer will be forfeited. Also, please plan to come to your session ready to go. If possible, have your children (if you session includes children) as close to ready as possible, if not completely ready. Depending on your attire, you may want to put shirts on when you arrive to avoid wrinkles. I have found, the less you do to ready your children when you arrive, the less stress you cause them.

Sending me your images:
